Lenten observance
Mac McLernon, whose excellent blog site Mulier Fortis is well worth periodic visits, asks - see her comment following A Lenten Laugh below - whether I have given up posting for Lent. The answer to this is that I've been somewhat absorbed with writing what in a different context would be called a homily. In this context it rejoices under the name of an 'address or meditation on the theme' at an interdenominational Women's World Day of Prayer service here in Ely. (As a mere male, I feel privileged to have been so invited although I do wonder at the selection criteria employed.) Being unaccustomed to such activity, it has taken me rather longer than it would (or indeed could) if homily writing were a more regular part of my life.

You know, I suspect that if you were to have a men's world day of prayer, there would be uproar, screaming about discrimination....
I'm sure you are right. I gather WWDP are thinking of changing their name which is a pity because it really ought to be possible for men & women to engage in gender exclusive activities - as, until now, they've always been able to - without the fear of being tapped on the shoulder by one or other wing of the ubiquitous tought police.
I totally agree - in fact, I think that there would be more men seen at church events if they were sure that they wouldn't be swamped by the feminine... the Blessed Sacrament Guild (men only), The Knights of St Columba (ditto) and so on, need to be revived in more parishes. After all, the Union of Catholic Mothers is unlikely to be swamped with applications from men to join...
